DSIP (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in which slow-wave (delta) sleep had been induced. Its endogenous receptor and precursor remain unidentified, making it an open subject in neuroendocrine research.
Research Applications
Laboratory research with DSIP focuses on sleep architecture and EEG delta-wave models, circadian rhythm and stress-response studies, neuroendocrine modulation of LH and corticotropin release, and oxidative stress research conducted in vitro and in animal models.
